Artworks by Giuseppe Veneziano
About the artist Giuseppe Veneziano
* 1971 Mazzarino, Italy
The architect Giuseppe Veneziano is a member of the 'Italian Newbrow' artists group, one of the leading representatives of New Pop Art. While Andy Warhol once merely questioned the icons of popular culture, Giuseppe Veneziano knocks them right off their pedestal as he comes to grips with the history of art. When he depicts Jesus and his crown of thorns with a JE SUIS CHARLIE sign like an American mug shot, Madonna with Adolf Hitler in her arms instead of the baby Jesus, Mao Zedong as the Ronald McDonald clown, the Pieta with Superman, Vincent van Gogh and the Girl with the Pearl Earring each taking selfies with their iPhones, or Disney's Snow White holding a gun and standing in front of a heap of dwarves with fatal gunshot wounds, the purpose is provocation. He practically forces us to rethink the image which we have formed of our idols, or which has been formed for us. For at least ten years now, the international importance of this Italian artist has continued to grow.
