About the exhibition
Extended owing to popular demand and from 13 January onwards supplemented in a refit with new, exciting exhibits, our current exhibition “ZERO Artists” will display 30 works of icons, such as Otto Piene, Heinz Mack and Günther Uecker.
Our special focus is on Otto Piene, who died in July 2014 and who we personally got to know only weeks before his death in London. Dirk G. Kronsbein was able to acquire four contemporary works at that time, among them, along with SCARAB even one recommended by Otto Piene himself. All these works are displayed as an integral part of our current exhibition.
The predominant idea conceived at the founding of Group “ZERO” was of an entirely new beginning in painting as well as the artistic incorporation of light (and shadow) and – following Piene – of fire. From that perspective, even Piene’s last works represent studies that have survived from a time when fire was omnipresent. As a luminous figure who remained a visionary, he continued to create fire gouaches and smoke paintings right until the end. Also to be seen: Piene’s selection of distinctive ceramics whose shimmering, almost iridescent gloss, made of gold and platinum evokes new spatial light effects in harmony with the environment.
